The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

Overall Look- the use of camera movement, lightning, lenses, and angles. The lightning shapes that they used in this movie were very helpful because they helped tell the story. In the beginning of the movie they focused the camera a lot and they zoomed in a lot to the characters faces. Bright lightning was also used in this movie to give it a great look and feel what is going on in  the movie. I believe that the director was trying to achieve with this, was for the audience to understand and feel what Jean Buaby was feeling. Most of the angles used in this film were low angle shots because Jean was usually in a bed or chair.
Images-The images in this film that convey information that is not reflected in the Jeans action are in the start of the film. The actor’s images showed desperation and impotence toward his situation it developed the movie’s theme, the narrative, and the meaning. The film explains the audience and gives a sense of what is going to happen or what will happen next  and how the person may be felling at that moment when something is happening.
Shot Lengths-  long shots and close up shots were both used in this film. Close-up shots pay very close attention to the subject. The close ups they shot give the audience a better understand at the characters reactions. When they focused right on their face, close up shots can provide an exclusive view of the characters emotions or state of mind. I think some shots were long because the directors wanted us the viewers to get the purpose and the feeling of what is going on. Also long shots contained the full body of one or more character.

Shot Types-  I believe that the shot types that they used in this movie explains a lot about the characters feelings and personality. They used a lot of close up shots in this film i believe that they used close up shots because so thy can give us the audience a better understanding  of the characters reaction. They used a lot of extremely close up shots in this film specially in the beginning  of the movie.

Camera Angles- The film had a lot of low angle shots. They used a lot of low angles because Jean was always sitting in the bed so they had to film it in low angles since the bed were he is laying down all the time is really low. This also have an idea of how the character was feeling he was always feeling down Jean was feeling helpless since he couldn't really do anything.

Composition-  The composition of this movie was balanced. Composition helps us to convey characters physical, emotional, and psychological emotions. The composition of the man in the wheelchair this scene is composed in a way that gives the feeling of not being happy and feeling lonely since he cant really do much since he is in the wheelchair most of the time and also just laying down in bed.
Camera Movement- the movement of the camera is very important. The movement of the camera makes you get different points of views of where and what is going on in the movie or what is going to happen. Camera movements introduce us to more details than would possible be ignored with a static image it also helps us get a good picture of what is going on. It also helps us get the point of what is the movie about and what is the point of it.
Cinematography Style- the cinematography is important this calls the attention. Without cinematography the film will not have a meaning we will not get the feeling of what is going on in there head.

The cinematography has to be noticeable otherwise how would one get the feeling of being in the characters head.  It is necessary to make the style so noticeable in order to get the full affect of Jean.
